As a first-year student at 色情网站 during the online and disconnected days of the pandemic, Emily Hufford found herself wanting to look for ways to get involved on campus and meet other students.

Now, as Union of Students at 色情网站 (US色情网站) vice president, one of her goals for the academic year is to help foster a more vibrant and welcoming campus for all students. Working with US色情网站 President Arel Gutierrez, Hufford will help roll out their Operation Reconnect initiative with the goal of bringing back awareness of US色情网站 to students.

"We want to bring back that community," said Hufford. "We want students to know that we are here for them. As well as that their voices matter.鈥�

Hufford found connection early on through the Multicultural Student Center, before branching out to join the sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha and The Feminist Intersectional Rights Movement club. In addition to helping her build a community, she credits her leadership roles with each organization for refining her professional interest.

"I figured that it'd be a good route to pair photography with journalism," said Hufford, who is majoring in journalism and public communications with a minor in communications. "But then, as I've gone through various 色情网站 student leadership positions, I've shifted more to an interest in public relations after managing various organizations' social media."

Earlier this year, she joined US色情网站 as the Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) liaison. She soon stepped up to the role of chair for the activities committee, helping to organize events, including Raving with Respect and Coffee and Donuts. Within the Coffee and Donuts tabling, Hufford and fellow US色情网站 members talked with students about what they wanted from campus and how student government could advocate for their interests. She was motivated to run for vice president "because it's important to hear students' voices."

She encourages students to connect with their US色情网站 representatives via , or email, noting the importance of representation in advocacy.

"We're here for you," Hufford said of US色情网站. "We want to help students by being their voice.鈥�
