RightHear 'Talking Signage' User Instructions

Ready to Get Started RightHear, Right Now?

This guide provides a brief overview of the RightHear app’s features specifically for use on É«ÇéÍøվ’s main campus. Currently, É«ÇéÍøվ’s RightHear multidirectional beacon route runs between Rasmuson Hall and the É«ÇéÍøÕ¾/APU Consortium Library.

The RightHear app does not require an internet connection to function. However, for optimal performance, be sure to:

  1. Turn on Bluetooth
  2. Enable Location Services on your phone
  3. Select your specific device mode: Indoor or OutdoorRightHear app displayed on a phone screen

iPhone

Users must enable Indoor Mode:
On – The app will scan for Spots (beacons)
Off – The app will not search for Spots or sensors

Android

Users must open Spots (Beacon) Scanning Mode:
On – The app will scan for Spots (beacons)
Off – The app will not search for Spots or sensors

Note: Without these settings enabled, RightHear will not function indoors on campus.

The Main Screen is divided into three sections:

  1. Current Location: in most indoor setups, you’ll start receiving audio cues from a RightHear beacon once you’re within about 15 to 20 feet. Some beacons may be set to trigger at 5 to 10 feet for greater accuracy in crowded areas. Once in range, the beacon will audibly share its location with you. For example: RH West Entrance.

Tip: If RightHear’s app is having trouble detecting beacons, try waving your phone in a small figure-eight pattern to help calibrate the GPS and beacon locations.

  2. Around Me: displays nearby locations and provides directions to them, including guidance to the next beacon.

  3. Settings is organized into three sections of its own:
      1. Modes: Indoor, Outdoor, and Sky (top of the page)
      2. General: General settings (middle of the page)
      3. About and Help: Information and support (bottom of the page)
